What is Gift Aid?
Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you raise, we get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue, helping your fundraising go much further. This means that £10 can be turned into £12.80 as long as donations are made through Gift Aid. Imagine what a difference that could make. So if you want your fundraising to go further, Gift Aid it!
Gift Aid Rules
In order for us to claim Gift Aid, the individual who donates the money must complete a Gift Aid declaration, with their full name and address. For a one-off standard donation, you can obtain Gift Aid declaration cards from the MND Association.
If you are completing a sponsored event, please use an MND Association pre-printed sponsor form as these have a Gift Aid declaration on them.
All your sponsors need to do is print their name, house number and post code and tick the Gift Aid box. It couldn't be simpler!
For an individual to qualify for Gift Aid their income tax or capital gains tax must at least equal the amount we will claim in the tax year. If they pay tax at the higher rate they can claim further tax relief on their self-assessment return.
There are unfortunately times when we cannot claim gift aid, for example:
. On the purchase of items sold to raise money for the MND Association;
. On admission charges to an event;
. On the sale of raffle or lottery tickets;
. On payroll giving donations.
There are also rules relating to Gift Aid claims on funds received from the sale of auction lots. For more details, please contact the MND Association.
It is the responsibility of the donor to notify the Association if they change their name, address, or cease to pay income tax equal to the tax that the charity reclaims. A declaration can be cancelled at any time by notifying the MND Association - Gift Aid will then not apply to any donations made on or after the date of cancellation or such a late date as you specify.
If you are unsure whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid please contact your local tax office, or the MND Association.
